Well, today was a great day! I woke up this morning to an email from Fed Ex that a package from the FBI was on its way to be delivered today....and it was! That was our FBI background checks! They took approximately 45-days to get back and need to be sent back out for apostilles. I'm SOOOO excited to be getting closer and closer to having a completed dossier!
While this has been very exciting for me, I just finished reading another blog post that has got my heart pounding!! Someone else posted the words in my heart. With all of the Whitney Houston mourning, I've been thinking and feeling the very things described in a post "If not us...then who?" by No Greater Joy Mom. http://www.nogreaterjoymom.com/2012/02/if-not-usthen-who.html It is a MUST read!
I really don't have much else to add. I just don't get the whole save the trees, save the dogs, save the whales...any of it, when there are unborn babies being murdered and "unwanted" children dying!! Why isn't EVERYONE doing something? Why aren't we shouting from the rooftops? Why is it an occassional story clip in the media? Why do we cry over people everyone "knew" but not over the ones no one cared enough to know? I don't get it, I don't get it, I just don't get it.
I started a post just before Superbowl weekend that I never finished and never posted. I had heard on the radio that it was estimated fans would spend approximately 11 BILLION DOLLARS on food and party "supplies" on Superbowl weekend. They estimated that the average fan spent $60. Now, I'm not against people enjoying themselves and watching the game but what I don't get is why people don't get excited about giving an orphan life...a family, paying their ransom. Why?
I am not a person who believes that EVERYONE is commanded to ADOPT. That's not how the scripture reads. The scripture DOES command everyone to care for orphans, however. How that care looks may be different for different people. Some people ARE called to adopt, some have financial means to help a child get better care, to be adopted, to get medical attention, food, or whatever. But so many, do NOTHING. And I do mean N-O-T-H-I-N-G. I can't even comprehend why that would be.
You don't have to be a Christian to see that there are children who need us to get up and move, to be their voice. So many people, instead, choose to buy their expensive purse or shoes, take fancy vacations, live in their giant homes, drive flashy cars, drink their overpriced lattes and pretend like there isn't anything they can do about it. Bologna! Again, there isn't anything bad about the things I listed, just when they are given priority over the other, more important and unselfish things in life.
I should stop here. I'm bound to upset many by not retracing every word to explain what I don't mean. Just burdened for the babies (and children) who have nothing and no one....truly burdened.
You are right about everyone doing something. But I do think different callings are from God. While you are called to help orphans, there are others called to Evangelize, other to feed the hungry, others yet to turn to the widows! (We always forget the widows, and if orphans are ignored, when so many have youth and sweetness to attract) imagine the elderly! And, think of the people of Syria! Our wounded vets! Earthquake victims. On and on.....
ReplyDeleteI do think that those working passionately for any good cause, geta pass. However, there are WAY too many people who live life for themselves (and their Superbowl parties). As I write that I think of the great degree to which I do it too. I also feel convicted that I am not doing enough to encourage my kids to reach out to someone in need.
I'm having word verification problems; this new "look" is impossible to read half the time...but I was reading that blogger now has spam prevention, so maybe you don't need it. I've not gotten any spam on my blog in a long, long time.
From what I see in scripture is a command for ALL of us to care for both widows and orphans, as well as evangelize. Some people are called to do more in certain areas, or perhaps are called to adopt or called to go out and spread the Good News to the corners of the earth but we are call commanded to share the good news and care for the widows and fatherless. I don't see anyone as having a pass. I also believe it is all interwoven, for instance, my command to care for orphans is partly fulfilled in my call to adopt but my command to spread the good news includes what I am doing with my kids and each life we touch throughout our adoption processes. Many who are called to evangelize ARE caring for widows and orphans, in one way or another. I don't see how we can have a heart for Christ and not have a burden for all of these things and more. The best way to teach our kids to reach out to those in need is to lead them to Christ so He can put the burden upon their heart and let them see us as the living example as one who follows Christ, stepping out of our comfort zone to love others (through evangelisim, caring for widows and orphans, etc). God gives all believers faith (we cannot believe or accept Him without this faith that comes from him) but some people are GIFTED in faith. This gift is something more, that goes beyond that saving faith. I see commands and callings much the same way.
DeleteSorry about the word verification, I have received spam and satans trolls still lurk so for now, I think I need to keep it.
